Here at WSM, we have a heart to serve and reach people from all backgrounds and cultures; we also desire to provide opportunities to all regardless of sporting and physical ability.
As a part of this, we have begun an ‘All-Abilities’ ministry which focuses on people with disabilities. This could be physical, mental or a learning disability, but it needn’t prevent people from joining in or from us reaching out to them.
Will Winduss leads this work for us and has a fantastic passion to engage with all people and to pilot this new ministry:
“As I have disabilities myself, I know exactly what it’s like to not be afforded the same opportunities that others do, but also the joy from it when you do. I also know that many churches and other organisations often feel ill-equipped to know how to engage with disabled people and I would like to help change that.”
Will is partnering with others and producing materials and training to help inspire and train. He is also modelling sports ministry to disabled people by:
- Coaching children with disabilities in primary schools
- Running a community ‘Boccia’ club for young people and adults.
- Adding sports activities into a local church’s community outreach to elderly people.
Other concepts are in mind and Will also has a heart to train others to also reach people with disabilities in their own area – could you?
